I seem to be drawn to both ellipsis and direct and simple suggestion. Like most artists I start with questions.  I ask; What does it mean to be a landscape artist at this time, our time, and speak to the long tradition of landscape art in Maine. It seems critical to have a different perspective and question our relationship with landscape.

How do I connect the work I make today with art history and geologic time?

What was the original intent of mark making and how can I bring that forward?

Most importantly; Will the work speak to the thoughtfulness of these questions?

The drawing stones ( stones dipped into wax and marble dust) allow me to seep into the landscape like water, do the drawings and leave, knowing  the next high tide or rain will erase my presence. This transient and performative act helps inform the modest studio work but more critically it functions, metaphorically, by speaking to our relationship to landscape.
